Supervised undergraduate research on a project with an ecology and evolutionary biology faculty member for students considering a career based on biological research. Class reviews the philosophy of science, basic statistics, and library searches, and emphasizes how to input data, create graphs, and prepare results for publication, posters, and talks. (Formerly Biology 183F.) Enrollment restricted to junior and senior EEB majors conducting research project with EEB faculty member. The Staff

BIOE 183L. Undergraduate Research in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology 5-unit independent study offered every quarter (not summer).

Students doing research to produce a thesis can enroll in up to three quarters of thesis research. Your thesis is reviewed by your sponsoring faculty member and may qualify for honors. One quarter of your BIOL 195 may also be used to satisfy one upper-division elective for your biology major.
NOTE: Students are encouraged to enroll in BIOE 183F or 183L or BIOL 186L prior to enrolling in a thesis research course.

BIOE and BIOL 198 Independent Field Study
Students doing faculty-sponsored research off-campus can enroll in 2-15 units of independent field study.

BIOE and BIOL 199 Tutorial
Students work with a faculty member in their research lab doing an independent project for 2-5units. This course may be repeated for credit and 5 units of BIOL 199 may be used to satisfy one upper-division requirement for your biology major.
