TWO-PASS ENROLLMENT

The campus has instituted a two pass enrollment systen that will allow you to “pass” through the enrollment system twice. In the first pass (appointment) juniors, sophomores, and frosh can enroll in up to 14 credits. In the second pass, all students can enroll in up to 19 credits. This system is similar to systems used at many other universities and is designed to give all undergraduates a better opportunity to enroll in at least two classes important to their academic progress. FAQS for New Enrollment System

PLEASE NOTE, THIS NEW SYSTEM DOES NOT APPLY TO STUDENTS IN SENIOR STATUS.

SENIORS: The new enrollment system does not apply to you. All students in senior status (135 credits or more) will enroll as usual (up to 19 units) when their appointment time arrives. Please check your portal for your specific enrollment appointment time. In order to secure seats in classes you need to progress in your major and graduate, it is extremely important that you enroll during your priority enrollment appointment.

JUNIORS, SOPHOMORES, FRESHMAN: During your first enrollment pass it is recommended that you prioritize:

  • Courses (with or without laboratories) which are required for your major
  • Courses which are prerequisites for classes which you intend to take in subsequent quarters
  • Courses only offered in one quarter per year or only in alternating years

Things to consider when prioritizing enrollment in your "first pass" (maximum of 14 units):

  • Courses in a series which are required for your major
  • Small classes with limited seats such as labs
  • Having backup courses in mind, which can keep you progressing in your major if your first choice courses fill up

Some courses will be "gated" meaning that additional seats will either be released during the "second pass" of enrollment or issued via permission number to students with priority after the first class meeting. If you do not get into a course in the first pass, check enrollment on the second pass. If you are unable to enroll in a biology course during the enrollment period and would like to request a permission code, you MUST attend the first day of class and sign up on the permission code request list. Permission codes are given as space is available. Priority for enrollment will be given to graduating seniors. The BioAdvising Office does NOT issue permission codes.
